Fritz FixIck (not "Fixick") is a treatment for external parasites in freshwater and saltwater aquariums, including Ich, velvet, Chilodonella, Trichodina, and Tetrahymena.
Key Details
- Active Ingredient: Gentian violet, which gives the water a purple hue.
- Formaldehyde-Free: It is a gentler alternative to treatments containing harsh ingredients like formaldehyde and malachite green, which can stress fish.
- Broad Spectrum: In addition to parasites, it has antibacterial and anti-fungal properties, helping to prevent secondary infections.
- Aquarium Compatibility: It is safe for use with scaleless fish but not safe for use with invertebrates (corals, snails, shrimp, etc.). It may also stain aquarium ornaments and silicone.
- Recommended Use: For best results, it is recommended to use the medication in a separate quarantine or hospital tank.
Dosing Instructions
Fritz FixIck uses a two-dose system over a six-day period.
-
Preparation:
- Raise the aquarium temperature to 82-85°F (28-29°C) to accelerate the parasite life cycle and ensure maximum exposure to the medication.
- Remove all chemical filtration (like activated carbon or ion-exchange resins) and turn off protein skimmers or UV sterilizers before treatment.
-
Treatment Schedule:
- Day 1: Add 5 mL (1 teaspoon) per 10 U.S. gallons.
- Day 2: Add 5 mL per 10 U.S. gallons.
- Day 3: Perform a 25-30% water change.
- Day 4: Add 5 mL per 10 U.S. gallons.
- Day 5: Add 5 mL per 10 U.S. gallons.
- Day 6: Perform a 25-30% water change.
-
Completion:
- If no symptoms are observed after the treatment course, replace chemical filtration and resume use of skimmers and UV sterilizers.
- If necessary, a second course of treatment can be performed.
