The term "Pleco Gibbiceps Albino" refers to the Albino Sailfin Pleco (Pterygoplichthys gibbiceps), a large freshwater catfish native to the Amazon Basin. Known for its striking pale yellow to white body, red eyes, and massive, sail-like dorsal fin, this pleco is a popular but demanding addition to large aquariums.

Tank requirements
  • Size: A juvenile Albino Sailfin Pleco is often sold when small, but it can grow to 15–18 inches in length and requires a spacious tank. A 100-gallon aquarium is the minimum recommendation, with larger tanks being ideal. The tank should prioritize floor space for foraging over height.
  • Filtration: A powerful and robust filtration system, such as a canister filter or sump system, is crucial to manage the significant waste they produce. Strong water flow is also beneficial.
  • Substrate: Use a fine, sandy substrate to protect their delicate barbels and mouthparts. Coarse gravel can cause injury or be ingested.
  • Decorations: Provide plenty of hiding spots with large rocks and driftwood, as these plecos are nocturnal and prefer to rest during the day. Driftwood also provides fiber for their diet.

Water parameters
  • Temperature: Maintain a stable tropical temperature between 72 and 82°F (22–28°C).
  • pH: A pH range of 6.5–7.5 is generally suitable, but stability is more important than an exact number.
  • Water quality: Perform regular water changes to keep nitrates low. Aim for nitrates below 40 ppm.

Diet and feeding
  • Omnivorous diet: While excellent algae eaters, especially as juveniles, Albino Sailfin Plecos require a varied diet to stay healthy long-term.
  • Food types:
    • Staple: High-quality sinking algae wafers and pellets.
    • Vegetables: Blanched zucchini, cucumber, peas, and spinach.
    • Protein: Occasional meaty foods like bloodworms or shrimp should be fed sparingly.
  • Feeding schedule: Feed them after turning off the tank lights, as they are nocturnal.

Temperament and tank mates
  • Temperament: Generally peaceful, but they can become territorial with other bottom-dwellers as they mature. In a crowded tank or when underfed, they may also start to rasp at the slime coats of larger, flat-bodied fish like angelfish or discus.
  • Compatible companions: Most community fish of a similar size or larger are suitable tank mates.
  • Incompatible companions: Avoid very aggressive fish that may bully them, as well as very small fish that could accidentally be swallowed.
