The L076 pleco is a small, attractively marked catfish known as the Orange Seam Pleco (Peckoltia sp.)

. It is known for its beautiful contrast of dark body and bright orange seams on its fins. They are a smaller, more manageable pleco species, making them suitable for a community aquarium.

Appearance
  • Coloration: Typically has a dark or brown body with light speckles or patterns. The most striking feature is the "orange seam" or "orange flash" that runs along the edges of its fins, especially the dorsal and caudal fins.
  • Size: They remain a relatively manageable size, reaching about 4 to 5 inches (10–13 cm) in length.
  • Body:

They have a stout body and are not as flattened as some other pleco types.

Care and tank setup
  • Tank size: A 30-gallon tank is a good minimum size for a single L076, with larger tanks recommended for multiple specimens to reduce territoriality.
  • Water parameters: They prefer warm, well-oxygenated water.
    • Temperature:

      75–82°F (24–28°C).
    • pH: 6.5–7.5.
  • Aquascaping: As nocturnal fish, they appreciate plenty of hiding spots. Use rock piles, wood tangles, caves, and driftwood to create a secure environment.
  • Water flow:

A moderate to strong water flow is appreciated as it helps keep the water well-oxygenated.

Diet and feeding
  • Omnivorous: The L076 pleco is an omnivore with a tendency towards meaty foods, unlike many algae-eating plecos.
  • Foods: Their diet should include a variety of foods:
    • High-quality sinking pellets and algae wafers.

    • Meaty foods like bloodworms, brine shrimp, and sinking carnivore pellets.
    • Blanched vegetables, such as zucchini and spinach.

Behavior and tank mates
  • Temperament: The L076 pleco is generally peaceful but can be territorial, especially towards other bottom-dwelling fish or during breeding.
  • Compatibility: They can be combined with a wide variety of tank mates due to their size and peaceful nature.
    • Compatible:

They are safe with small fish and shrimp. Good tank mates include schooling fish that occupy the upper water column, like tetras and rainbowfish.
    • Incompatible: Care should be taken with very territorial bottom-dwelling fish.

Breeding
Breeding the L076 pleco in a home aquarium is challenging but has been achieved by experienced hobbyists. As with many plecos, they are cave spawners, and replicating their natural environment is key
