Black brown rili shrimp" likely refers to the Carbon Rili shrimp (Neocaridina davidi 'Carbon Rili'), a popular and hardy dwarf shrimp variant. The name comes from the distinctive "rili" pattern, which involves a black head and tail connected by a clear or blue-tinged midsection.
In some cases, the "brown" coloration can also describe a different type of shrimp called the Chocolate shrimp or Black Rose shrimp. These are separate color morphs, but since the term "rili" was used, the reference is almost certainly the Carbon Rili.

Appearance
  • Coloration: Carbon Rili shrimp are defined by their tri-colored body.
    • Head and Tail: These sections are a solid, deep black or brownish-black.
    • Midsection: The midsection of the body is translucent or clear, sometimes with a subtle bluish tone.
  • Size: As a Neocaridina species, they grow to an adult size of about 1 to 1.5 inches.
  • Grading: As with other shrimp varieties, the quality is determined by the boldness of the color and the clarity of the midsection.

Care and tank setup
Carbon Rili shrimp are highly adaptable and are a great option for beginner aquarists.
  • Water Parameters: They are tolerant of a wide range of water parameters, but stability is the most important factor.
    • Temperature: 65°–80°F (18°–26.5°C).
    • pH: 6.5–8.0.
  • Aquascaping: They thrive in planted tanks with moss, driftwood, and leaf litter, which provide hiding places and surfaces for foraging.
  • Feeding: They are omnivores that graze on algae and biofilm. Supplement their diet with quality shrimp pellets, algae wafers, and blanched vegetables.

Breeding
  • Reproduction: Carbon Rili shrimp breed easily in stable freshwater conditions. Females carry eggs for about a month before they hatch into miniature versions of the adults.
  • Interbreeding: As a Neocaridina species, they will interbreed with other shrimp of the same genus. Mixing colors may result in offspring with a less desirable wild-type coloration.
