Fritz MetroCleanse is an effective antibiotic and anti-parasitic treatment for both freshwater and saltwater aquariums, with the active ingredient metronidazole. It targets internal and external infections and is available as a powder in pre-measured packets for easy dosing.

Key Features and Uses
  • Active Ingredient: Each packet contains 200 mg of metronidazole.
  • Targeted Ailments: Effective against common protozoan and some bacterial infections.
    • Protozoan Infections: Includes freshwater and saltwater Ich (Ichthyophthirius multifiliis and Cryptocaryon irritans), Hexamita ("hole-in-the-head" disease), and Oodinium (Velvet disease).
    • Bacterial Infections: Also has antibiotic properties that can help with certain bacterial issues.
  • Safety: Will not affect the beneficial bacteria in the biological filter and is safe for scaleless fish. It is considered non-toxic even if overdosed (though proper dosage should be followed).
  • Versatility: Can be administered in two ways: by dosing directly into the water (broadcast method) or by mixing it into fish food.
  • Invertebrates: It is safe for invertebrates (corals, snails, shrimp, etc.) only when used in a medicated food mix. If using the broadcast method in the main tank, all invertebrates should be removed.

Dosing Instructions
Fritz recommends using MetroCleanse in a quarantine tank for best results. Chemical filtration (carbon, ion-exchange resins) should be removed during treatment, and protein skimmers or UV sterilizers should be discontinued during treatment.
You can administer MetroCleanse through the broadcast method (dosing the water) or by creating a medicated food mix.

Broadcast Method
For dosing the water, use one packet per 20 U.S. gallons (76 L) every 48 hours. Continue this treatment until symptoms resolve, for up to ten doses, and try to avoid water changes during this time.

Medicated Food Method
To create medicated food, mix one packet with about a tablespoon of fish food, adding a small amount of water if necessary. Feed this mixture daily until the symptoms disappear or for a maximum of three weeks. Refrigerate or freeze any remaining medicated food between feedings. This method is generally safe for aquariums with invertebrates
