The Highfin Albino Corydoras (Corydoras aeneus 'Highfin') is a selectively bred variation of the popular Bronze Corydoras. It is a peaceful, active, bottom-dwelling catfish known for its pale, pinkish-white body, red eyes, and a gracefully elongated dorsal fin. They are highly social and an excellent addition to most community aquariums.

Tank Requirements
  • Tank Size: A minimum of a 20-gallon tank is recommended for a school of six or more fish. They are active bottom dwellers and need enough horizontal space to forage.
  • Decor: A well-planted aquarium with plenty of hiding places like driftwood and rocks helps them feel secure. They appreciate subdued lighting, which can be achieved with floating plants.
  • Substrate: A soft, fine substrate like sand is essential. Rough or sharp-edged gravel can damage their delicate barbels, which they use to find food.
  • Filtration: A strong filtration system is needed to maintain pristine water quality, and good surface agitation helps with oxygenation. The long fins are more susceptible to fin rot if the water quality declines.
  • Lid: A secure lid is recommended, as Corydoras may dart to the surface to gulp air.

Water Parameters
While tank-bred Highfin Albino Corydoras are hardy, stable and clean water is crucial for their long-term health.

Parameter  Range
Temperature 72–79°F (22–26°C)
pH 6.5–7.5 (can tolerate up to 8.0)
Hardness (GH) Moderate (2–15 dGH)
  • Maintenance: Regular partial water changes (25% weekly) are essential to prevent the buildup of nitrates, which can be particularly harmful to their barbels.

Diet and Feeding
These omnivorous scavengers are bottom feeders and need a dedicated, varied diet.
  • Staple: High-quality sinking pellets, wafers, and flake food that falls to the bottom of the tank.
  • Supplement: Offer small, protein-rich live or frozen foods regularly, such as bloodworms, daphnia, and brine shrimp.
  • Feeding frequency: Feed once or twice daily, ensuring they get enough food, as faster-swimming fish may eat all the food before it sinks.

Behavior and Tank Mates
  • Temperament: Extremely peaceful and highly social. They must be kept in a school of at least six of their own kind to feel secure and display natural schooling behaviors.
  • Tank Mates: Good companions include other non-aggressive, similarly sized community fish like tetras, rasboras, and livebearers. Avoid aggressive bottom-dwellers or fish that might nip their long, flowing fins.
  • Lifespan: With proper care, they can live for 5 to 10 years or longer
