Fritz Coppersafe is a stable, chelated copper treatment for use in both freshwater and saltwater aquariums to treat and control a variety of external parasites. Its long-lasting formula requires only one dose to maintain a therapeutic copper level of approximately 1.5 to 2.0 ppm for up to one month. 
Before using Fritz Coppersafe, it's essential to understand its properties and correct application to ensure the health of your aquarium inhabitants. This product is a copper-based treatment and requires careful consideration regarding dosage, water parameters, and the specific needs of your aquarium's ecosystem. 

Key Features and Uses
  • Target Parasites: Fritz Coppersafe is formulated to treat and control external parasites such as Ich (white spot disease), Velvet (protozoan diseases), flukes (Gyrodactylus), and anchor worms in aquarium settings.
  • Aquarium Compatibility: It can be used in both freshwater and saltwater aquariums. The formulation is compatible with various aquarium equipment and treatments, including all water conditioners, carbon filtration systems, and UV sterilizers, and it should not negatively impact the biological filter.
  • Invertebrate & Plant Safety: It is crucial to note that Fritz Coppersafe is not safe for any invertebrates, such as corals, snails, shrimp, and clams. It may also be harmful to some aquatic plants and amphibians. All such organisms must be removed from the tank before beginning treatment.
  • Fish Sensitivity: Certain fish, particularly those without scales (including some catfish, tetras, mandarins, and puffers), can be more sensitive to copper treatments. Caution is advised when using Coppersafe in aquariums with these species. Monitoring is recommended in such cases.
  • Application: Fritz Coppersafe is well-suited for use in a separate quarantine tank, either for new fish before introducing them to the main display tank or for treating fish showing signs of external parasites. 

Dosing and Monitoring
The concentration of Fritz Coppersafe in the aquarium is critical for both effectiveness and the safety of the fish. Maintaining the correct level is important for successful treatment. 
  • Maintaining Concentration: A single initial application is typically designed to maintain the treatment level for an extended period, up to one month, due to the stable nature of the chelated formula. If water changes are necessary during the treatment period, it is important to treat only the volume of the new water being added to the tank to help maintain the desired concentration.
  • Monitoring: Using a reliable copper test kit is essential to monitor the concentration of copper in the aquarium water. The test kit should be capable of measuring total or chelated copper to ensure accurate readings.
  • Addressing High Levels: If the copper level becomes too high, it is necessary to reduce it. This can be achieved by performing large water changes. After completing the treatment, copper can be removed from the water through additional water changes or by using a product specifically designed to adsorb copper, such as a copper-specific adsorbing resin or polyfilter.
